PREPARATION & CARE FOR A RADIANT SUMMER COMPLEXION

It's finally here, summer. But what makes us feel good (rising temperatures and sunshine) can really take its toll on our skin. To prepare your skin for the challenges of summer, we have put together the best tips for seasonally appropriate skin care . So you can compete with the sun and enjoy the summer carefree.

Summer, sun, skin-friendly care

Warmth, sun, often sea and chlorinated water: in summer the skin needs special attention because its needs change. As temperatures rise, sebum production is stimulated, meaning the skin requires less care than in winter. The focus of type-appropriate skin care in summer should be on sun protection and moisturization.

Our skin care recommendations for summer

So that your skin is optimally prepared for the summer, you should use cleansing and care products that suit your skin type and the associated needs of your skin.

The MultiVitamin Power Masque from Dermalogica is very suitable for minimizing light damage to the skin.
A particularly gentle peeling, such as the rice-based enzyme powder Daily Microfoliant from Dermalogica, gently removes residue from the skin without putting additional strain on it and prepares it optimally for the following care.
To replenish the skin's own moisture reserves with highly effective hyaluronic acid overnight, we recommend the Vip Vitamin Power B5 with hyaluronic acid from Med Beauty Swiss.
Moisture masks like the I Mask - Hydrogel Sheet Mask from IMAGE Skincare provide the skin with an extra dose of moisture. Skin that is intensively moisturized tolerates the effects of the sun better and can repair damage that has already occurred more easily.

Protect the skin from the sun

The be-all and end-all of summer skin care: sufficient sun protection! UV rays are not only responsible for premature skin aging, they can also cause irreparable cell damage and dangerous skin diseases such as skin cancer. Depending on the skin type, the skin's own protection time can be extended with appropriate products.

Depending on your skin type, a sun cream, a sun lotion or a light sun fluid is suitable to protect your skin from harmful UV radiation. Many day care products already contain integrated sun protection - making them ideal for daily use.

If the skin is exposed to particularly strong sunlight (e.g. in the mountains or near the water), we recommend using a highly effective sunscreen with a particularly high sun protection factor. Wear the product approx. Apply the cream 20 to 30 minutes before exposure to the sun and repeat the application regularly. During midday you should avoid the sun completely, especially in southern countries near the equator. The following also applies: prefer shady places and also protect your face from strong sunlight with a hat or other headgear. Sunglasses not only protect your eyes from bright light, but also protect the delicate skin around your eyes from wrinkles that can be caused by squinting your eyes.

You can find highly effective sun protection products for different skin types and needs here.

Intrinsic protection of the skin

To a certain extent, the skin can protect itself from the effects of the sun. Depending on the skin type, i.e.H Depending on the individual level of pigmentation of the skin, this so-called self-protection time varies between approx. 10 (very light skin) and 30 minutes (more pigmented skin). Sun protection products optimize the skin's own protection with a correspondingly high sun protection factor (SPF or SPF = Sun Protection Factor). This indicates how much longer you can stay in the sun without risking sunburn.

However, the skin can be damaged even without sunburn, which is why we recommend making sun protection the basis of your daily skin care routine, especially in summer. Highly effective care products with integrated sun protection factor protect the skin day after day and provide it with everything it needs to look radiantly beautiful even on warm and sunny days.

Skin care after the sun

Even if the skin is adequately protected from the effects of the sun in summer with appropriate products and does not suffer any (visible) damage, it is still exposed to stress such as heat and dry air in everyday life. Salt or chlorine water can also affect the skin. In order to prevent feelings of tension, fine lines and pigment spots, it is important to provide the skin with sufficient moisture and nutrients, especially after spending time in the sun. Light, less rich creams, lotions or fluids protect the skin from drying out too much. Depending on the ingredients, they also compensate for the loss of minerals and vitamins caused by increased sweating.

Summer skin care from the inside

You can do your skin good in the summer not only through appropriate care from the outside, but also from the inside: Drinking enough water has a positive effect on the circulation and is also optimal Moisturizing the skin is essential. There should be at least two liters of water or unsweetened tea per day in summer; During physical exertion, such as swimming, hiking or other sports, the need for fluids increases.

Due to increased sweating, which in turn serves to cool the body, the skin not only loses moisture but also minerals. Proper nutrition is therefore also a key component in keeping your skin healthy in summer. Foods rich in natural beta-carotene act as antioxidants from within: they optimize the skin's natural “sun defenses” by helping to break down free radicals and stimulating the skin's own cell renewal. Red, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables in particular, such as carrots, tomatoes, peppers, apricots and melons, contain a lot of beta-carotene.

Scrubs, masks & after-sun products

  • As nice as it is to feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, the associated radiation is unfortunately just as dangerous, as it deprives the skin of moisture and causes it to age prematurely. After sunbathing, restore lost moisture to your skin with an after-sun product. After-sun products ensure that the complexion appears firm and fresh and the skin's regeneration is accelerated. Skin that is optimally cared for not only tans more easily, but is also healthier because it is more resilient and looks fresher. After the sun, treat your skin to an extra dose of care with products that support it in regeneration. You can find products to minimize sun-related irritation here.
  • A peeling helps remove dead skin cells and keeps the complexion clear and fresh. Especially in summer, regular peeling is a good way to remove sebum, sweat and residue from sun protection and care products from the skin. Peeled skin also tans more evenly because gentle abrasive particles, enzymes or fruit acids remove loose dead skin cells from the upper layer of skin, which can make the complexion appear patchy.
  • A mask gives the skin rich care and supplies it with nutrients that the sun, heat, wind and water deprive it of in summer. For cleaning, we recommend using light lotions or cloths soaked in cleaning emulsion, which can be used to remove make-up and sun protection products without leaving any residue.

Caring ingredients in summer care products:

  • Vitamin A promotes skin regeneration
  • Vitamin E delays the aging process of the skin
  • Vitamin C neutralizes free radicals and promotes the effects of vitamin E
  • Provitamin B5 has a strong moisture-binding effect and supports the skin's ability to regenerate
  • Hyaluronic acid is an essential component of connective tissue and protects the skin from drying out

Freshness for in between

For a fresh kick every now and then, facial tonics or thermal water sprays are an excellent choice on hot days. They soothe sensitive or sun-stressed skin and provide it with minerals and moisture. The sprays can easily be used over make-up. However, especially in summer, make sure you wear breathable make-up so that the pores, which produce more sebum in warm temperatures, do not become clogged and impurities or irritations do not occur.
